In 2024, Nexburg was funded by Federal Ministry of Education and Research for its research in the area of telecommunication compliance solutions. The S8 Home Routing product (LMISF) allows lawful interception of roaming subscribers according to the 4G mobile radio standard and in accordance with the 3GPP TS 33.107 technical specification. This is necessary to overcome a gap of lawful interception in cross-border communication. One design goal of 4G is the separation of control plane (SGW-C) and user plane (SGW-U). The separation according to 3GPP creates the challenge that several different interfaces are required to fulfill lawful interception and a component separation is necessary. This results in complex control processes inside the Nexburg LI architecture. Nexburgs project description explained the necessary research activities which are now approved by the German Research allowance certification office.
